*** Yesterday I was tired and wrote the name of my co-international student wrong. Her name is Randdie.***
No matter how many times you start a new grade or school you always feel like a kindergartner getting ready for their first day of school ever. Today was no exception. I woke up early thinking that I had overslept because the sun was already up. Nope, it was 5:30, in Costa Rica right now it has more of a winter sun pattern. Randdie* and I got ready quickly and had a great breakfast cooked by our "mama tica." She made us pancakes in shapes and we had a breakfast fruit salad plate of mango, banana, and apple. She even had tea for me! After breakfast she gave us our keys and walked with us to Veritas, (it only took about 7 min). We met up with other international students in the main hall and were taken to get our IDs made and then rotated off to placement testing. After we took our pictures (for which I have high hopes!!) we went straight into the oral exam. I think it went well, it was basically just a conversation with one of the Spanish professors. We don't find out the results until later this afternoon...
After the testing we had an orientation and we could walk around the campus. Veritas is a small, urban art and design college that is very modern on the inside. It only has two buildings, but it is very open and has many levels, creating the effect of a grown-up jungle-gym. I'll post a picture later. The orientation was more of the same information, but the presenters were specialists in cross-cultural communication and trained in anthropology! We also learned about extracurricular activities and I've decided to take a Costa Rican cooking class, and maybe yoga! They also have several school festivals coming up that we were invited too! We had a pizza lunch after the orientation and then we returned to our house (Randdie didn't feel good). But we will be returning at four to find our our classes and meet up with some other friends we met to go to celebrate the fourth of July at the American embassy! More later, with pictures I promise!
Your weather update for Costa Rica: Ahora esta lloviendo.
Good you have your iridescent umbrella! I look forward to so proper arroz con pollo and yummy beans and rice in the future!
ReplyDeleteI just looked at the virtual tour - very cool place. La Biblioteca esta muy bonita.
ReplyDeleteMy limited memory of HS Spanish translates your weather report to, "Right now it's selling" Haha! Somehow I don't think that's right - unless it means everyone is selling umbrellas because it's raining...
haha that happens too! all the ponchos come out for about 20$!
